After more than five days, Daniela, a survivor of the devastating 6.2-magnitude earthquake that struck central Italy, had little hope to find her pet cat Gioia – which means ‘Joy’ in Italian.

Louisiana floods has been devastating, but from great tragedy comes great hope. It didn’t take long before there was good news. A nonprofit called Pilots N Paws, which uses volunteer pilots to transport shelter animals from places where their lives are at risk, to places where they will be safe. On Wednesday morning, entrepreneur and volunteer pilot David Murphy set out on his first Pilots N Paws mission, from Georgia to Louisiana, then to Florida, and back again.
